Optimum Array Processing with Variable Linear Constraint

چکیده
If the desired signal is uncorrelated with incoming interference signals, a linearly constrained adaptive array successfully estimates the desired signal by reducing the interference signals [1]. If the desired signal is correlated partially or totally (i.e., coherent) with the interference signals, the desired signal is partially or totally cancelled in the array output depending on the extent of correlation between the desired signal and the interference signals. Some methods, such as the spatial smoothing approach [2, 3], master-slave type array processing [4], alternate mainbeam nulling method [5], and general linearly constrained adaptive array [6], have been proposed to prevent the signal cancellation phenomenon in a correlated signal environment. A drawback of the methods proposed in [2-5] is that they employ additional hardware or algorithms to reduce the effect of the coherent interferences. In this study, the general linearly constrained adaptive array is examined in the weight vector space to find the nulling performance in [6] in terms of the gain factor, which turns out to be the reduction of the gain in the look direction in the translated weight vector space. It is shown that the variation of the gain factor results in the variation of the distance between the constraint plane and the origin in the translated weight vector space, which has a geometric effect of shifting the constraint plane with respect to the origin. The simulation results are shown to illustrate the nulling performance with respect to the gain factor. It is shown that the general linearly constrained adaptive array performs better than the linearly constrained adaptive array with respect to the elimination of the coherent interferences.

A class of constant modulus algorithms for uniform linear arrays with a conjugate symmetric constraint
A class of constant modulus algorithms (CMAs) subject to a conjugate symmetric constraint is proposed for blind beamforming based on the uniform linear array structure. The constraint is derived from the beamformer with an optimum output signal-to-interferenceplus-noise ratio (SINR). The effect of the additional constraint is equivalent to adding a second step to the original adaptive algorithm...
متن کاملApplication of stochastic programming for iron ore quality control
Stockpiling and blending play a major role in maintaining the quantity and quality of the raw materials fed into processing plants, especially the cement, iron ore and steel making, and coal-fired power generation industries that usually require a much uniformed feed. Due to the variable nature of such materials, they even come from the same source and the produced ores or concentrates are seld...
متن کاملOptimum Wordlength Allocation
This paper presents an approach to the wordlength allocation and optimization problem for linear digital signal processing systems implemented in Field-Programmable Gate Arrays. The proposed technique guarantees an optimum set of wordlengths for each internal variable, allowing the user to trade-off implementation area for error at system outputs. Optimality is guaranteed through modelling as a...
متن کاملOn the Optimum Directivity of Uniformly Spaced Broadside Arrays of Parallel Half-Wave Dipoles (RESEARCH NOTES)
The nominal directivity for uniformly spaced broadside parallel half-wave dipoles associated with a uniform excitation is evaluated. The amplitude distribution for an optimized directivity is then obtained for different numbers of elements with the separations between the dipoles as a variable. The optimum and nominal directivities are compared for different spacings of the elements. While thes...

This paper describes the synthesis of digitally excited pencil/flat top dual beams simultaneously in a linear antenna array constructed of isotropic elements. The objective is to generate a pencil/flat top beam pair using the excitations generated by the evolutionary algorithms. Both the beams share common variable discrete amplitude excitations and differ in variable discrete phase excitations...
